Toronto Blue Jays Secure World Series Meeting Against Los Angeles Dodgers

George Springer celebrating

George Springer previously helped the Astros securing the World Series in 2017.

The Toronto Blue Jays advanced to their maiden Fall Classic following 1993 by defeating the Seattle Mariners in the decisive seventh game of the AL Championship Series.

Trailing by two runs, outfielder George Springer smashed a three-run blast in the seventh frame, propelling the Toronto squad in the majors to a 4-3 series victory in the best-of-seven series. Next up are the Dodgers, the team that is the current crown, in the upcoming championship.

"It's incredible for our team, the city, the nation," said Springer, a key player of the Houston Astros team that won the 2017 championship. "What an amazing experience."

The veteran has now hit 23 playoff homers, ranking him third all-time after Ramirez (29) and Jose Altuve (27).

"There's probably not another player anywhere that I'd choose in that spot besides George Springer with his playoff prowess," remarked manager John Schneider.

Seattle's team, who had led the series two games to none and three games to two, are still the one club yet to make an appearance in a World Series.

Mariners manager Dan Wilson stated "certainly that it hurts" after his team's loss at their home ballpark, but praised their efforts this season.

"It's a special team. Sadly that we had to come out on the losing end of the series," he continued.

Toronto's team won the championship on both previous visits in 1992 and '93, and will host the Dodgers in the first game on Friday.
