Triple NBA MVP Nikola Jokic suffered a "devastating" knee injury as the Denver Nuggets lost by a score of 147-123 to the Miami Heat.

The star player sustained the injury late in the first half during an unintentional collision with teammate Spencer Jones.

Jones stepped on the foot of Jokic, and he promptly fell to the court clutching his leg.

The veteran player, that leads the league this season in rebounds and assists, posted 21 points and eight dimes in the game before sustaining the setback.

He will undergo an scan on Tuesday to evaluate the severity of the injury.

"Right away, Jokic realized he was hurt," said Denver coach Adelman.

"This happens in professional sports. Whoever that is injured, it's tough to see, most notably somebody as talented as Jokic. We will know more on Tuesday."

"We will continue as a team. Clearly, at this moment, I am more concerned about Jokic personally and the frustration of facing something like that."
