This Swine Life: Hog Named 6-7 Pardoned by Miami Dade County Mayor.

Although not quite at the identical stature as sparing Thanksgiving turkeys, but the mayor of Miami-Dade had her own Donald Trump moment this week by ritually sparing the life of a pig named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.

“This animal is guiltless. She is worthy of this pardon. Her criminal record is spotless,” stated the mayor in a speech with obvious nods to the extraordinary and sizable number of executive clemencies issued since the beginning of a second term in office.

“If we disregard eating six or seven apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “Let this swine have a lengthy and joyful existence free from concern.”

The event, which both honors and questions the local cultural practice of feasting on pork during the holidays, was created to mirror the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.

The pig, donated by a local firefighter, was named for the modern linguistic fad of young people shouting “six-seven” – deriving from a musical verse – often for no discernable reason. The trend became so ubiquitous that a major dictionary recently made “6-7” its 2025 word of the year.

A Future Secured

This particular pig is now set to enjoy its days at a countryside refuge “away from grills and cookware”, according to the organizers' announcement.

“The pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to kick off the holiday season,” said the event host, in a particularly upbeat message.

“It embodies the spirit of Miami: vibrant, diverse, and based in heritage that bring people together. Annually, we are honored to observe tradition and kindness in a way only Miami can.”

Participants enjoyed a vegetarian menu of spinach fritters and Cuban coffee as they marked the pig's pardon.
