The Two Fatalities Identified in the Ivy League School Shooting as Authorities Press On With Search for Killer.

Both young individuals who lost their lives in the weekend's mass shooting at Brown University were honored at the start of the week – as a manhunt for their killer continued following the release by authorities in Rhode Island of the single suspect of interest in the case.

Honoring a Lost Student

The student Ella Cook, a second-year scholar from Alabama, was remembered as “a wonderful, steady, devout, shining presence”, according to the Cathedral Church of the Advent, Birmingham, which paid tribute to her at a service on Sunday.

Cook was vice-president of Brown’s division of the College Republicans organization, the group said. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt also posted sympathies online, stating: “There are no words. Keeping in mind her kin and peers, particularly her mother and father.”

The other person killed was an Uzbek national named MukhammadAziz Umurzokov, an Uzbek national in his freshman year at the renowned school, his family confirmed.

The victim's identification was confirmed by Uzbekistan’s foreign ministry.

“He was exceptionally gentle, witty, and bright. He had big dreams of becoming a neurosurgeon and helping people,” his sibling Samira said in a online post.

What Happened

Nine more persons were wounded in the violent event in the school of engineering of Brown’s university in Providence, during the school’s final exam period.

Authorities said by the end of Sunday that a 24-year-man taken into custody in a police operation at a hotel about around 27 kilometers from the campus earlier in the day was being released.

“There is a killer at large,” said Rhode Island’s attorney general, Peter Neronha.

Neronha explained, “Investigations can lead one way, and then you have to regroup and pursue a different angle, and that’s exactly what has happened over the last day or so.”
