The Mighty Nein's Opening Sequence Selected the Incorrect Popular RPG Show Track
This latest animated series, the newest animated series from the beloved role-playing group, unveiled a new opening credits. It features our favorite cast of misfits, misfits, and criminals fighting hard and making their mark, while also hinting at several heart-wrenching personal histories for characters such as Liam O'Brien's wizard Caleb, and another actor's warlock orc, Fjord.
Overall, the intro looks stunning. However, I felt that something was missing in the music selection.
This sequence uses "Welcome to the Continent", an exceptional composition composed by producer and singer the talented musician. This piece originating from the soundtrack album of that title, the second release released by Critical Role Productions LLC's music division Scanlan Shorthalt Music. It's a great sentimental choice, and I suspect that devotees of the sequel series will love its inclusion.
Personally, The Mighty Nein's intro doesn't quite capture the excitement and excitement that was part of the second campaign's live-play sessions. "Your Turn to Roll", composed by singer-songwriter the artist, became an immediate hit for me when it was first revealed in 2015, and it improved further when cast member Sam Riegel wrote words to the tune for the animated Campaign 2 opening in the later year.
Featuring vocals from one actress, Laura Bailey, Travis Willingham, as well as Riegel himself, the song was memorable and enjoyable. Back then, I hadn't seen the follow-up series yet, but this was such an earworm that I still saved it on my device. This track that excites you before you start an installment of adventurous fun.
The show's opening with "the new song" doesn't strike the right notes for me. It's a grand composition, but based on my understanding of this party, I feel that its mood is a little off.
Of course, Critical Role has stated that the animated show will have some surprises and variations from the original live sessions. A tonal change for its opening appears as one of them.
The Mighty Nein will be released on the streaming service from November 19. If you can't wait before that, or wish to prepare to get to know the personas of Critical Role's Campaign 2, the original episodes are accessible on Spotify and YouTube.
