The Hit Drama Confirmed for Seventh Series on BBC
The acclaimed crime series AC-12 will make a comeback for its 7th installment, announced by the BBC.
An upcoming six-part series created by the show's creator starts production in Belfast this spring, as confirmed by the network.
The actress expressed excitement about the return, saying she was "thrilled" about the show's renewal. Adrian Dunbar added, "What a joy it is to know that the main trio will be back filming together soon."
The last series wrapped up in 2021 with a finale that drew in over 17 million audience members. Rumors about a new season have been circulating for some time, but official word only came this week.
New Challenges for The Team
Series seven begins with AC-12 having been disbanded and renamed as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, as revealed by production details.
Steve Arnott, Vicky McClure's role, and Ted Hastings remain tasked to tackle misconduct within the police force.
The team's mission "has never been more difficult", and in this climate, the trio are assigned their "most sensitive case to date."
Fresh Face and Complex Case
A new character, DI Dominic Gough, portrayed as a charming officer known for busts of organized crime, faces allegations of misusing his authority to become a sexual predator.
Yet, this investigation could be a deliberate distraction from a larger danger still active in the background, plot details hinted.
In a statement, the creator commented: "All cast and crew feels enormous gratitude to the dedicated viewers."
"It's an honor to have had so many fans watch the ups and downs of the unit over multiple series and we are thrilled to be coming back for a seventh installment."
Mercurio continued: "Misconduct in this country is supposed to have ended while Line of Duty was off air, so I've been compelled to use my imagination."
Actor Responses
Martin Compston called appearing in the series as "the role of a career".
"Beyond the show's success but the colleagues I've worked with I now call dear friends."
"I'm excited to wear the uniform again and reunite with everyone," he said.
The Nottingham-born actress remarked: "It goes without saying I'm so excited the show is returning! Eager to work with the creator, Compston and Adrian again. Belfast, we'll see you soon!"
The veteran actor noted: "While anticipating the AC-12 days of Christmas, how exciting it is to know that the Three Amigos will be working together soon."
"Delighted with the announcement and looking forward to those unexpected plot developments."
Show History
The drama launched in the early 2010s and evolved into a highly successful TV dramas of the last decade, attracting notable actors such as Kelly Macdonald.
The BBC has not yet announced exactly the upcoming series will hit screens.
The finale of series six brought the extended plot about the hunt for criminal mastermind known as "H" to a conclusion, and the creative team said at the moment there were no intentions for additional seasons.
However, the corporation confirmed on Tuesday that a new season is now in development.
