The January transfer market is typically a time of intense rumour and possible major moves. A number of high-profile stars find themselves linked with transfers away from their present clubs. This article explores some of the top names that might be on the move in January.

A. Semenyo

Although Ghana's inability to qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations, which has kept the player available, it appears a major move is close. The 25-year-old possesses a contract featuring a sizeable release clause applicable for a two-week window at the start of the month. Recent developments suggest the Premier League champions are now the frontrunners for his services. Former interested parties such as Tottenham and Chelsea reportedly have turned their attention to other options, leaving clubs like Manchester United or Liverpool to attempt a late move.

Marc Guéhi

The England centre-back has continued to excel for Palace this season a previous transfer to Liverpool falling through. With his deal due to expire in the close season, this represents the London club's final chance to obtain a fee for their skipper. Numerous elite clubs, including Manchester City and multiple European giants including Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, and Barcelona, reportedly be interested. Yet, a January exit remains unlikely, especially given the manager's dependence on the defender.

Brennan Johnson

The Welsh forward has had first-team opportunities hard to come by at Spurs this campaign. Despite finishing as the side's leading goalscorer the previous campaign, Johnson has started just a small number of league matches. It is understood the North London outfit would be willing to consider a sale for the correct price, thought to be in the region of £40 million. The Cherries appear to be at the front of the queue, with Aston Villa, Brentford, and Crystal Palace also credited with an inquiry.

R. Neves

The Portugal playmaker could be poised for a comeback to the Premier League after a spell in the Saudi Pro League. Still only 28, and with his contract expiring in the summer of 2026, he is a possible bargain. Clubs such as Manchester United and Liverpool are linked with the player. Furthermore, there are rumours from Spanish media that he would be willing to take a pay cut for a move to Real Madrid.

M. ter Stegen

The experienced Germany shot-stopper finds himself as the third option at Barça under the manager Flick. Having fallen out of favour and had an operation, a January exit seems increasingly likely. Aston Villa were initially linked as a potential destination, but that move currently seems off. Instead, interest from Saudi Arabia and Turkey are reportedly expressing interest in the keeper.

I. Toney

This prolific English striker has continued finding the net regularly in Saudi Arabia. A return to the Premier League might boost his fading chances of being in the England squad. But, securing a deal presents major hurdles. Al-Ahli are reluctant to part with him, and his reported enormous weekly wages make any agreement complicated. Tottenham, Manchester United, and Everton have all been linked as admirers.

C. Gallagher

The energetic midfielder drew widespread attention in the summer but remained at Atlético. With limited starts in Spain this season, he may be keen to find more playing time ahead of the tournament. Harvey Elliott

Although excelling and winning player of the tournament at the Under-21 European Championship last summer, the talented midfielder has found it tough for minutes during his loan spell at Villa. The manager has stated the temporary transfer will not be made permanent. Due to specific rules regarding playing for multiple teams in a season, a move back to his parent club prior to next summer appears to be the sole available outcome.

Kenan Yildiz

This exciting Turkish forward has been in excellent form for the Italian giants this season. As his existing deal running down, many English sides – such as Tottenham, Arsenal, Chelsea, and Liverpool – are keeping tabs on the situation. Juventus are eager to secure the 20-year-old to a new long-term agreement but face a battle to keep one of Europe's most promising prospects.

Kees Smit

This much-admired Netherlands midfielder has drawn parallels to a Belgian superstar for his style of play. After impressing at the U19 Euros, Smit has broken into the AZ Alkmaar first team. This 19-year-old is widely tipped to make a big-money move in January. Newcastle are believed to be leading the chase, but are facing stiff rivalry from the Spanish champions for a deal valued at around twenty-two million pounds.
