It: Welcome to Derry Debuts Second Ahead of Schedule on HBO's Digital Service

Excitement is building for the Stephen King adaptation It: Welcome to Derry, which is receiving positive feedback and incorporating elements from additional King stories. Just one day after launch, HBO announced that episode two will premiere ahead of schedule, timed perfectly for October 31st.

Early Release Details

Starting on Halloween night at midnight PT, the next part of It: Welcome to Derry will premiere on HBO's online platform, before its Sunday HBO premiere. Subsequent episodes of the eight-episode season will continue to air on Sundays on the network and streaming service, leading up to the season finale on the 14th of December.

Show Background

Set in the world of King's It, the new series draws from King’s iconic novel while enlarging the universe brought to life by the It movie director in the two It films. The first It movie highlighted young characters battling unimaginable horrors, thus it's suitable that the series continues that tradition. Nevertheless, the first installment of the streaming show demonstrates it aimed to escalate the fear, providing even more intense scares than Muschietti’s films and establishing a harsh vibe for the upcoming episodes.

Premise and Ideas

Set in 1962, this show introduces a fresh cast of grown-ups and kids inhabiting a seemingly idyllic town concealing a sinister core. The town functions through a brutal, periodic loop—characterized by aggression, prejudice, and paranormal events, as a monstrous presence resurfaces every 27 years. Even though Welcome to Derry might appear like it skews too close to the films initially, what differentiates the streaming show is its two-sided viewpoint—narrated via the eyes of both children and adults simultaneously. The kids stay highly exposed to the monster's horror, but older characters aren’t spared facing their individual fears born from Derry’s deep-seated bigotry and lurking supernatural forces.

Episode 2 premieres on the 31st of October at 12 a.m. Pacific Time.
