Fox Sports Cuts Ties with Mark Sanchez, Substitutes Him with Former QB Brees
The network has terminated its association with game analyst Mark Sanchez as he faces criminal charges, multiple outlets reported on Friday.
"We can confirm that Mark Sanchez is no longer with the network," a network representative commented. "There will be no further comment at this time."
Stepping into the analyst role will be another former NFL quarterback, Drew Brees, according to the report. He will likely to partner with announcer Adam Amin and has a contract to provide commentary through the 2026 season.
Background on the Incident Involving Sanchez
The 38-year-old Sanchez had been sidelined since he was stabbed and subsequently arrested following a fight in an alley in Indianapolis with a 69-year-old truck driver. He had traveled to call the 5 October game between the Colts and Las Vegas Raiders but was admitted to the hospital and replaced that week by Brady Quinn.
He is charged with a felony battery charge as well as at least three misdemeanors. This serious charge could result in of one to six years in prison, if convicted, and he has entered a not guilty plea in Marion County, Indiana.
Drew Brees' Professional Background
Brees, 46 left the NFL after the 2020 season and worked during 2021 with NBC Sports, serving as a game analyst for the Notre Dame football coverage and featured in a football program.
He has done studio work with Fox and ESPN and served as an commentator on Netflix’s international game during the holidays.
Brees led the New Orleans Saints to a Super Bowl victory in the 2009 NFL season and was a two-time awardee NFL Offensive Player of the Year. He is second behind the legendary Brady in league history in passing yards (80,358) and TD passes (571).
