“It was regrettable. That was essentially an exchange with our fans seated near me,” Jones stated during a Tuesday interview. “Present was a swarm of Cowboys fans—not New York fans, our fans. The entire stadium was filled with enthusiasm for the Dallas team.”
He further clarified that the gesture was completely accidental, occurring amid the excitement following the team’s final touchdown. “I simply showed the incorrect digit,” he remarked. “It was accidentally performed. This is sincere. Should you call it accidental, you can. However, it got corrected rapidly.”
League Context for Proprietor Penalties
This incident isn’t the first time an NFL owner has been penalized for inappropriate behavior. Recent cases include:
- Panthers proprietor Tepper was penalized $300K for throwing a drink at spectators in January 2024.
