Antony Price, Famed for Styling David Bowie and Duran Duran, Dies at 80.
Fashion legend Antony Price, the influential style architect behind a series of unforgettable images favored by musical icons like Bowie and members of Roxy Music, as well as Queen Camilla, has passed away aged 80.
He was celebrated for his defined forms and theatrical styles, such as the light-hued ensembles that became famous from the iconic band Duran Duran's landmark music video for "the song Rio".
"In a tribute, they called him a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the group posted a remembrance online."
Price's death comes just weeks after he unveiled his latest collection in London, his first in more than 30 years. Artist Lily Allen showcased a dress evoking the famous black velvet "revenge dress" historically worn by Diana, Princess of Wales.
An Enduring Influence
Born in Yorkshire in 1945, Price relocated to London during the sixties to attend the renowned Royal College of Art.
Upon completing his studies, he began designing men's fashion at the company Stirling Copper and was behind the tight, button-detailed trousers that rock legend Mick Jagger wore during the iconic group's "Gimme Shelter" tour in 1969.
He established his eponymous line in 1979 and presented his inaugural collection a year later. The show opened with looks from supermodel Jerry Hall, who also wore the bridal gown Price specifically designed for her nuptials with Sir Mick Jagger.
Partnerships with Stars
A frequent collaborator of the late David Bowie, Price created the iconic jacket the artist wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.
His trademark skill to merge elements of men's and women's fashion along with his technical proficiency in shaping body-hugging looks cemented his status as a "genuine original," according to the UK's fashion authority.
During the nineties, he began working on outfits for Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, such as various looks for her US tour after assuming the title.
With a vocation that covered over fifty years, Price staged what would be his last show in London recently in partnership with the label 16Arlington.
