American Armed Forces Conducts Deadly Attack in Pacific, Resulting in Four Fatalities

As stated by a high-ranking defense spokesperson, the US military executed a lethal strike on a boat in the Pacific Ocean, resulting in the deaths of four individuals.

“A US joint task force conducted a lethal kinetic strike on a craft operated by a terrorist group in open sea. Intelligence confirmed the vessel was traveling along a established drug smuggling route and was involved in illicit drug transport. All four male drug traffickers were eliminated, and no US military forces were harmed.”

Background and Recent Actions

The statement follows a day after an announcement regarding a naval blockade of all targeted oil tankers to and from Venezuela. That statement on online platforms, the US president accused Venezuela of using oil profits to fund narcotics smuggling and criminal activities, pledging to increase the military buildup.

Only on Tuesday, the Pentagon stated it had carried out strikes on three boats it accused of smuggling narcotics in the Pacific, leading to the deaths of eight people. Beginning on 2 September, more than 20 military engagements have resulted in the deaths of at least 99 individuals, the majority off the coast of Venezuela.

Government Defends Tactics Amidst Scrutiny

The administration has faced increasing pressure to make public video of a 2 September vessel attack. But, the defense secretary have declined to do so. The administration has supported its campaign as a successful operation, arguing it has prevented drugs from reaching US shores and has pushed back on concerns that it is exceeding the bounds of lawful warfare.

Although the administration has said the campaign is about halting drugs headed to the US, remarks from a top official appeared to suggest a wider political aim. In a recently published interview, the chief of staff said the president “aims to keep on blowing boats up until Venezuela's president cries uncle.”

This suggests the series of strikes may be part of a push to oust Venezuela's current leadership.
